The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has concluded its state elective congress with the emergence of new party leaders, describing the process as a fresh start for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held on March 14, 2026, was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and was described by party officials as peaceful and orderly. It followed earlier ward congresses held on March 3 across the state’s 105 wards and local government congresses on March 7 in the eight local government areas.
The exercise also featured the commissioning of a new PDP state secretariat in Yenagoa shortly before the election of the State Working Committee.
At the congress, delegates affirmed new officers to lead the party in the state, including State Chairman Chief Solomon Agwana, State Vice-Chairman Tony Gabriel, State Secretary Ato Alfreder Ebibofayei and Financial Secretary Erempagamo Eke-Spiff.

Earlier, the caretaker committee led by Hon. Alabh George Turnah was formally dissolved after overseeing the affairs of the party since the previous leadership was dissolved in April 2025.
Turnah said the congress and the emergence of new leaders were part of efforts to reposition the PDP for future elections.
Party leaders expressed confidence that the new leadership and the new state secretariat would strengthen the party and prepare it for the 2027 general elections.
