The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other members earlier removed at the party’s controversial national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The certificates were handed out during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, where Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum also officially transferred national leadership to Senator Kabiru Turaki.
PDP had, at its November 16 convention, ratified the expulsion of Wike and several others over alleged anti-party activities.
Speaking after the meeting, Turaki said the NWC reviewed all matters relating to the expelled members and resolved to document their removal in line with Nigeria’s laws.
He explained that the certificates would serve as proof that the affected individuals are no longer PDP members.
According to him, “Nigerian law frowns on dual membership of political parties. Now that these individuals have been expelled by our National Convention, we have issued certificates of expulsion so they can register with any party of their choice without being accused of belonging to two parties.”

He added that the documents have been dispatched by courier to all affected individuals, including Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna and Chief Dan Orbih.
Turaki noted that the action was necessary to notify Nigerians and relevant institutions such as INEC, the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and the NSCDC of the individuals’ updated status.
He insisted that the expelled persons remain expelled, adding that the party would soon issue public disclaimers to discourage official or political engagement with them.
According to him, “Anyone dealing with these individuals does so at his or her own risk. The PDP has once again gotten rid of the cankerworms that have been creating problems for us.”
Turaki said the party will now focus on rebuilding its structures and preparing to provide credible leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, the move remains controversial. The Ibadan convention, which produced the expulsion, went ahead despite court orders halting the gathering over unresolved disputes surrounding state congresses.
In response, the Wike-aligned faction led by embattled National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman rejected the convention as illegal. The group held a parallel NEC meeting in Abuja on November 18 and issued its own expulsions, targeting Governor Seyi Makinde, Governor Bala Mohammed, Governor Dauda Lawal, former BOT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, Turaki and PDP elder statesman Chief Bode George.
