The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken steps to discipline some of its key members over allegations of anti-party activities and internal misconduct. Among those facing possible sanctions are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom; and the ousted PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The party’s 26-member Disciplinary Committee, chaired by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, has scheduled its first sitting for Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The committee will review multiple petitions submitted by party members and leaders regarding the alleged infractions.

While Wike and Ortom are accused of working against the PDP during elections and making public statements deemed harmful to the party’s image. Anyanwu, on the other hand, faces more serious allegations, including violation of the party’s constitution, disregard for party organs, and inciting thuggery that led to the assault of party members at the PDP National Secretariat. His actions have reportedly brought the party into public disrepute.

The disciplinary proceedings come amid an ongoing power struggle within the party, particularly between Anyanwu and Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye, who was recently affirmed as PDP National Secretary by the Court of Appeal. The leadership tussle turned violent when Udeh-Okoye was allegedly attacked by thugs loyal to Anyanwu at the party’s headquarters. Anyanwu has also been openly critical of PDP Governors and the party’s Board of Trustees for endorsing Udeh-Okoye’s position.

In a letter released to the public, the Ikimi-led committee confirmed its commitment to addressing the internal crises and restoring order within the PDP. The panel’s decisions could have far-reaching implications for the party’s unity ahead of future elections.
