Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other detained freedom fighters, citing court rulings that have granted them bail.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi criticized the government for arbitrary detention practices, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law in a democracy. He also expressed grave concern over Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, warning that without urgent intervention, the country could descend into a failed state.
Obi urged concerted efforts by leaders to enhance security and economic collaboration, particularly among South-East governors, while advocating for peaceful protests as a democratic right. He dismissed speculations of joining a mega party, emphasizing his focus on addressing poverty and improving living conditions for Nigerians.
