The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has claimed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, is still struggling to come to terms with his painful defeat at the polls. Bwala made this assertion in a post on his X page on Wednesday, reacting to Obi’s latest comments on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Obi, in an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, made a series of critical remarks while assessing the current administration’s performance. However, Bwala dismissed Obi’s statements as lacking in substance, saying they were devoid of facts and logical reasoning.
“As I listen to Peter Obi this evening struggling to play the opposition (oppose the government), I can’t help but shudder at his abysmal delivery,” Bwala wrote. “He was speaking devoid of facts, logical analysis, and almost sounded like a tinkling cymbal or a sounding brass.”
Bwala further suggested that Obi has yet to recover from his painful defeat in the 2023 presidential election, claiming that the former Anambra governor now finds himself politically stranded.
“Mr Gregory has still not recovered from the painful defeat of the 2023 polls. But I can understand his confusion because as it stands today, he seems deserted in the banana republic of fantasy, wondering how he will convince his followers about his agreement to play second fiddle in the 2027 wild goose chase of the opposition. Nigeria dodged a bullet.”
The SA’s comments have sparked reactions among political analysts and the general public, with many weighing in on the ongoing exchange between the two political figures. While Obi’s supporters argue that his remarks were a fair assessment of the government’s performance, Bwala and other Tinubu allies insist that the Labour Party candidate is merely struggling to remain politically relevant after his painful defeat in 2023.

In his Arise TV interview, Obi had claimed that he would have handled Nigeria’s economic challenges better than President Tinubu, arguing that the current government has not demonstrated the competence needed to stabilize the nation’s economy. His comments echoed sentiments he expressed during the 2023 election campaign, where he positioned himself as a leader with a strong economic background and a focus on fiscal discipline.
The Labour Party candidate’s interview also touched on issues of governance, national security, and economic reforms, all areas where he believes the Tinubu administration has fallen short. However, Bwala remains convinced that Obi’s critiques stem from his inability to move past his painful election defeat.
This is not the first time the SA to the President has taken a swipe at Obi. The presidential aide has been a vocal critic of the former Anambra governor, often challenging his political positions and dismissing his influence in national politics. In previous statements, Bwala has argued that Obi’s political aspirations are unrealistic, and his recent remarks suggest that he believes the Labour Party candidate’s relevance is diminishing.

Meanwhile, Obi has yet to respond to Bwala’s latest comments, but his supporters have taken to social media to defend his stance. Many believe that Obi’s consistent critiques of the government are necessary to hold the administration accountable, while others see Bwala’s remarks as an attempt to undermine the opposition.
