The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon”, in connection with two violent crimes on Lagos Island, one involving murder and another, assault occasioning harm.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where investigations are ongoing.
According to reports, on September 17, 2025, around 3:00 pm, the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider with a helmet and fists, leaving the victim critically injured and hospitalised on oxygen.
The following day, another case emerged linking the same suspect to an earlier incident on August 28, 2025, during which he allegedly struck a man repeatedly with a metallic ring on the head and face. Despite medical intervention, the victim succumbed to his injuries on September 17, 2025, and his remains have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

Following news of the death, sympathisers of the deceased stormed the suspect’s office at Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, staging a violent protest, burning two of his motorcycles and disrupting activities in the area.

Swiftly responding, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, led a joint team of mobile police officers, tactical squads, and conventional operatives to the scene, restoring order and preventing escalation.
The Police Commissioner assured residents that the suspect will be prosecuted without delay, warning against jungle justice and urging Lagosians to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.

“The Command is committed to ensuring justice is served. We appeal to residents not to take the law into their own hands but to support the police with useful information,” CP Jimoh stated.
