The police force headquarters has paraded three bandits responsible for the kidnapping and other criminal activities in Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), and its environs.
The suspects, Idris Isiaku, Bala Umar and Dahiru Salihu, were arrested by men of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), after the launching of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to wipe out terrorists in the FCT.
The police also paraded 13 other suspects for armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and other violent crimes.
The suspects, who said they have been in Bwari and working as farmers and security guards, said they used the opportunity as security guards to carry out surveillance activities of residents, especially those they perceived to be wealthy, and report to their colleagues in the bush who carry out the kidnapping.
The suspects who said they were responsible for a series of armed robbery cases and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory, said they got paid after such operations and made good amounts of monies before their arrest by the police.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, force public relations officer Olumiyiwa Adejobi, said the feat was recorded by the collaborative efforts of the Department of Force Intelligence-Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, Anti-kidnapping Section and other State Commands.
He said that apart from the arrest, the team recovered several arms and ammunitions including a General Purpose Machine Gun(GPMG).
According to him, the police also rescued a kidnapped victim who was abducted from his house along with his Hilux Van with Registration number RBC 90 DL Gray colour by four armed men and taken to Kano State.
He said the police went into action as soon as the matter was reported discovered during an investigation that the victim who was being taken to Kano State, was dispossessed of his ATM cards at Kaduna and the sum of N500,000, transferred from his account.
He said the suspects however ran out of luck as they were intercepted by Police operatives at a filling station in Kaduna where three of them escaped, while one by the name Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael was arrested and the victim rescued unhurt, and his Hilux Van recovered.
Adejobi, said that during investigation, It was discovered that Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael and his accomplices had earlier been arrested sometime in November 2023 and charged for similar offences, at the High Court, Kwali, Abuja, but went back to committing even worse crimes while on court bail.
The suspect was paraded in a stretcher because of gunshot injuries, is said to be a notorious kidnapper in the FCT.
The FPRO, further stated that Also, operatives of the DFI-IRT office intercepted one Everest Magaji, a gunrunner, during negotiation with some notorious bandits who are currently at large, for the purchase and supply of illicit firearms and ammunition, eleven Pistols, and Two Pump Action Guns were recovered from the suspect.
He said the achievements recorded through these relentless operations demonstrate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure our country becomes a safe haven for us to inhabit.
He called on the public to be conscious and observant of their environs and the people in it, and report any suspicious activity to the police.
