Note that the controversy erupted after a short video clip went viral online showing Pastor Adefarasin holding what appeared to be a handgun while seated inside a luxury vehicle. The clip was reportedly filmed by a Lagos-based “car spotter,” a content creator known for recording celebrities in public spaces.
Pastor Adefarasin, through associates, maintained that he did not possess a lethal weapon and described the individual filming him as an “aggressive content creator.
The Lagos State Police Command promptly launched an investigation into the matter, insisting that no individual was above the law. Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily submitted himself for questioning at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, where he was grilled over the alleged gun and the unregistered vehicle.

During the interrogation, police examined the object in question and confirmed that it was a stun gun—a device designed to temporarily incapacitate an aggressor with an electric shock, rather than inflict fatal injury.
While stun guns are sometimes classified under “anti-riot equipment” in Nigeria and require specific clearance, police clarified that the object was not a conventional firearm, easing public concerns about illegal possession of weapons.
Paul Adefarasin is one of Nigeria’s most prominent pastors and the founder of House on the Rock Church, headquartered in Lagos. He is widely respected for convening The Experience, an annual gospel concert that draws tens of thousands of worshippers and top international gospel artists.
