Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has emphasized the need for integrity and responsibility in politics, describing it as a duty rather than a playground for opportunists. He spoke during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, which coincided with his birthday, in the presence of former presidents, royals, government officials, and other distinguished guests.
Reflecting on the founding of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, Jonathan explained that it was established after the 2015 presidential election, following encouragement from friends and business leaders, including Tony Elumelu. The foundation focuses on democracy, governance, and public sector reform, deliberately narrowing its scope to ensure measurable impact.
Among its key initiatives is the West African Elders Forum, a network of former presidents dedicated to preventive diplomacy and peaceful elections across the sub-region. Another flagship program, the Annual Democracy Dialogue, brings together experienced speakers to examine challenges and best practices in democratic governance in Africa.
