Former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marshall Uwom, has expressed gratitude to God and commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his exemplary leadership, peace-driven governance, and maturity in handling recent political tensions in Rivers State.
Speaking to journalists, Uwom described the earlier suspension of the governor as “an aberration” that could have destabilized the state, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention averted what might have been “dangers and challenges that would have befallen Rivers people.”
Uwom, who holds a doctorate in law and several law degrees, lauded Governor Fubara’s calm temperament and firm commitment to peace and reconciliation despite provocation. He noted that while Rivers people were initially agitated by the political impasse, the governor maintained composure and continued to advocate unity and stability.
“Rivers people were agitated; I personally was highly agitated,” Uwom said. “But the governor communicated peace and calm. He has always projected reconciliation and peace and that is what has kept Rivers State together in one fabric.”

“A Season of Restoration and Reconciliation”
According to Uwom, the governor’s return to full duty marks a new era of restoration and renewed development. He observed that the people’s excitement—both in Rivers State and even at the Presidential Villa—reflects confidence that Governor Fubara will reverse the damage done during his six-month absence.
He pointed out that under Fubara’s administration, Rivers State had been on a positive developmental trajectory before the crisis slowed progress. Uwom said that the governor’s reinstatement has rekindled hope for infrastructural renewal and better living conditions for residents, both indigenes and non-indigenes alike.
“The governor has hit the road running,” Uwom noted. “He’s received many visitors, and we can see the excitement and confidence that he will restore everything that was affected.”
On the relationship between the executive and legislature, Uwom emphasized the need for harmony and mutual respect, urging lawmakers to embrace their representative roles responsibly. He expressed optimism that both arms of government would work together to rebuild Rivers State, stressing that “the concept of separation of powers should apply” but must not hinder collaboration for the good of the people.
Uwom also called on Rivers people to continue praying for their governor and to support his vision of peace and people-centered governance. He described Fubara as “a man of humility who does not use power arbitrarily,” and one whose leadership style has earned him both national and international recognition.

“Let us continue to encourage and support our governor,” Uwom concluded. “He is a pacifist who places the people first, even at personal cost. Rivers State will move forward as long as peace and reconciliation remain our collective focus.”
The former deputy speaker’s remarks reinforce growing public sentiment that Governor Sim Fubara’s leadership has restored stability and hope in Rivers State after months of political turbulence, marking a new chapter in reconciliation and progress.
