Several persons are now feared dead after the failed attempt by daredevil terrorists to break into the Jos Correctional Centre in Plateau State.
Eyewitness Accounts say the casualties are passersby who were hit by stray bullets during the shootout between the terrorists and armed guards at the Correctional Centre.
Bodies of the casualties were spread around the facility.
Meanwhile, several bandits who attacked the Jos Correctional centre on Saturday are still trapped inside the Centre.
Spokesman of the Service in Plateau State, Francis Enobore, said the armed forces have mobilised to assist the armed guards in cordoning the perimeter wall and the entire area.
In the meantime, the Plateau State Police Commissioner, Bartholomew Onyeka, says some inmates escaped during the attack, out of which seven have been re-arrested.
CP Onyeka said one prisoner out of the Seven returned by himself and handed himself to the Police.
He said efforts are still ongoing to get the hoodlums who carried out the prison break.
The Jos custodial centre located in Plateau State capital is surrounded by the State Police Headquarters, the DSS Headquarters, and another Division of the Nigeria Police as well as the Area Command.
The facility was attacked at about 5:30 pm on Sunday by bandits who broke into the Correctional Centre, shooting sporadically.
