Outspoken member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ugochinyere Ikegwuonu, popularly known as Ikenga, has asked leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to refer to Article 47(6) of the party’s constitution in finding lasting solutions to problems tearing it apart.
He reiterated that strict adherence to the provisions of the party’s constitution is the key to resolving the lingering problem facing the party.
Article 47(6) of the PDP constitution makes provision for the replacement of a national officer of the party who quits his position.
Specifically, the constitutional provision reads: “Where a vacancy occurs in any of the offices of the party, the Executive Committee at the appropriate level shall appoint another person from the area of zone where the officer originated from to serve out the tenure of the officer.”
According to Hon. Ikegwuonu, the party’s leaders need to “read the PDP law.”
He said, “The deputy chairman/acting chairman is duty bound to call a NEC meeting for NEC to appoint a North Central person as acting Chairman.
He stressed, “The next NEC must move that motion whether Wike and his agent Damagum likes it or not. Let them get 100 court orders, but the right thing, as per our constitution, must be done.”
