A group of respected elders from across Rivers State, known as the Simplify Elders Forum, has paid a visit to former Governor Rufus Ada-George to thank him for his efforts in promoting peace and to show their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking during the visit, the convener of the group, Hon. Thomas Amadi, said they formed the Simplify Elders Forum to bring together elders who support the governor.
“We noticed that our governor mostly meets with young people. So we decided to gather as elders to also support him in an organized way,” Amadi said.
He explained that the group came to thank Chief Ada-George for playing a major role in trying to resolve the political crisis in the state.
Another elder, Professor Wood For-Benime, described Chief Ada-George as the “true leader of Rivers politics.” He said that from the time of late Governor Melford Okilo, down to Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike, and now Sim Fubara, Rivers politics has followed the same path.

“All of us here have been part of the Rivers political family. No one came from outside. That’s why we felt it was important to come and tell our leader what we are doing,” Professor Benime added.

In his response, Chief Rufus Ada-George thanked the Rivers Elders group for the visit and praised their efforts. He said the peace efforts were not done by him alone but by the entire Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, which has existed for over 14 years.
“We are not politicians. We care about the progress and peace of Rivers State. We want justice and fairness for everyone,” he said.
He also encouraged all political leaders in the state to put Rivers people first and think of future generations when making decisions.
The former governor called on the Rivers elders and all Rivers people to support peace efforts, and even suggested forming prayer groups to pray for the state.
The meeting ended with a message of peace, unity, and commitment to the good of Rivers State.
