The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has announced a ban on dumping refuse on road medians.
The newly inaugurated board of RIWAMA, led by its Chairman, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, has announced this while briefing Journalists after the inauguration. According to Nwanosike, this measure is part of a broader effort to sanitize the environment, improve waste disposal, and restore the Garden City’s long-lost reputation for cleanliness. He stressed that all residents and business owners must ensure their waste is properly bagged, warning that no refuse contractor will be allowed to collect or dispose of unbagged waste.
In a major move to restore environmental discipline, Nwanosike also announced the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise, which will now hold from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. every last Saturday of the month. He called on security agencies to support the enforcement of this directive.

The RIWAMA boss further disclosed that the agency will be holding a crucial meeting with all waste contractors and business partners today. He also dissolved all sanitation marshals and task forces previously set up by the agency with immediate effect.
