Say No to Drugs: Rivers NYCN Chair, Gift Jumbo, Advises Youths on Digital Skills Acquisition

The Youths of Rivers State, Nigeria have been encouraged to embrace digital skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship as sustainable pathways to success, rather than depending solely on government jobs.

At the just concluded 2025 International Youth Day celebration organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State chapter, at the Bonny/Bille Waterside in Port Harcourt. The event brought together youths, community leaders, and development advocates to discuss strategies for empowering young Nigerians through education, skill acquisition, and responsible leadership.

Speaking at the gathering, Comrade Gift Jumbo, Chairman of NYCN Rivers State, emphasized that young people must prepare themselves for the realities of a digital economy by acquiring skills that make them globally competitive. She also urged youths to take active roles in governance, noting that their energy, innovation, and ideas are critical to driving Nigeria’s sustainable development.

Other speakers at the event strongly warned against drug abuse, describing it as a major threat to the future of young people. They instead advised youths to channel their energy into self-development, digital literacy, vocational training, and entrepreneurship, which they described as vital tools for building a productive workforce.
