Women leaders of the Labour Party in Nigeria’s South East have passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the party’s National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman.

The leaders also called on party members across the region to actively participate in the ongoing electronic registration and prepare for the party’s upcoming congresses and national convention.

This was contained in a communiqué issued after a strategic online meeting held on Saturday by women leaders of the party across the South East geopolitical zone.

The meeting was convened by the Deputy National Woman Leader for the zone, Mrs. Ijeoma Chukwu, in collaboration with the National Organising Secretary, Arc. Chinelo Ofoche. It brought together women leaders from the five South East states to discuss ways to strengthen women’s participation in politics and consolidate the party’s structures in the region.

During the meeting, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting greater participation of women in politics. According to them, increasing women’s involvement in leadership and decision-making is essential for equity, justice and sustainable political development within the party and Nigeria’s democracy.

They resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation and advocacy efforts to encourage more women to become active participants in party activities and leadership structures.

The women leaders also agreed to mobilise female members across the South East to take part in the ongoing e-registration exercise of the Labour Party. They described the registration exercise and forthcoming congresses as critical processes for strengthening the party’s internal democratic system and ensuring that women are properly represented in leadership positions.

The meeting unanimously passed a vote of confidence in several party leaders for what the women described as their dedication to the growth and stability of the party.

Among those recognised were Abia State Governor Alex Otti and his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, for what the leaders described as purposeful and visionary leadership in Abia State.

They also commended Senator Nenadi Usman for her leadership as National Chairman of the Labour Party, noting that her role has helped steer the party toward unity and stability.

Also receiving commendation was Senator Darlington Nwokocha for his commitment to the ideals and progress of the party.

The women further praised Arc. Chinelo Ofoche, the party’s National Organising Secretary, for her organisational leadership and efforts in strengthening the party’s structures nationwide.

Mrs. Ijeoma Chukwu, Deputy National Woman Leader for the South East, was also acknowledged for her work in mobilising and coordinating women leaders across the region.

At the end of the meeting, the women leaders pledged to continue working together to strengthen party unity and grassroots mobilisation. They emphasised that their collective efforts would help ensure that the Labour Party remains a strong and credible political platform in the South East and across Nigeria.

The communiqué was jointly signed by Mrs. Ijeoma Chukwu, Deputy National Woman Leader for the South East zone, and Arc. Chinelo Ofoche, National Organising Secretary of the Labour Party.
