The Supreme Court has fixed Friday, January 12, 2024, to deliver judgment on the Kano State governorship election dispute between Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the All Progressives Congress candidate, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna.
This is contained in a notice issued by the apex court to all the parties in the suit on Wednesday.
According to the notice, the court directed that each party should not have more than two lawyers in attendance.
It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)had returned Abba Kabir Yusuf the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state, having polled a total of 1,019,602 votes against his opponent 890,705 votes.
However, the APC challenged the results of the election at the tribunal, which eventually nullified Yusufs victory, after deducting 165,616 votes from the total votes cast in his favour.
Dissatisfied with the judgement, Yusuf approached the Court of Appeal, which also affirmed the judgement of the lower court against him.
Again, not satisfied, Yusuf approached the Supreme Court, which is due to deliver its judgment in the case on Friday.
