Daredevil terrorists have attacked the advanced security convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari in his home state of Katsina.
The presidency confirmed the attack in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja.
The attack comes amidst heightened insecurity in the country, especially bandits attacks in the Northwest.
Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President in the statement said the attack happened as the advanced security of the president arrived in Dutsima ahead of Buhari’s Sallah visit.
He also described the incident as “sad and unwelcome” adding that “the shooting incident” took place “near Dutsima, Katsina State, affecting the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah entered.”
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura”, Shehu said.
