The search for a new leader in the Niger Delta is not one that will involve fierce contests or loud declarations. According to respected Niger Delta elder and activist, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, the next leader will emerge just like Pa Edwin Clark did — naturally and peacefully.
Speaking in a heartfelt interview following the burial of the revered leader, Pa Edwin Clark, Sara-Igbe said there was no need for panic or political scheming. “When the time comes, the bird in me will fly out and perch on the right person,” he quoted Clark as saying before his passing.

The statement, both spiritual and symbolic, reflects the deeply cultural and divine sense of leadership succession among Niger Delta communities. According to Sara-Igbe, Clark himself had taken over leadership in a similar fashion — not through an election or appointment, but through a moment of destiny.
He narrated how, years ago, a mysterious visitor dressed in traditional attire visited Clark early one morning, performed libations, and declared that the time had come for him to take over. Days later, the visitor died, and events unfolded that saw Clark rise to leadership — a role he held with truth, courage, and undying passion for the Niger Delta.
“Clark was more than a leader. He was an umbrella, a gem, and brutally frank. He gave his all,” Sara-Igbe said, noting the massive turnout and peaceful conduct at his burial as a testament to his impact.

While many may be wondering who will fill the void Clark left behind, Sara-Igbe advised patience and faith. “We already have leaders like King Spiff, former Akwa Ibom Governor Obong Victor Attah, and Ambassador Gali, but when the time is right, a true successor will reveal himself by action — just like Clark did.”
