Hon. Dr. Mrs. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh hailed Dr. Leo Zekeng with a powerful tribute speech. Describing him as more than just a brilliant scientist, she called him a beacon of hope and humanity as he launched his memoir titled; “The Journey Outlives the Traveller”. A book that reflects his 40-year journey in the global fight against HIV/AIDS, especially in Africa.
The official launch, held at the United Nations House in Abuja, where Dr. Oreh joined a powerful gathering of health and development leaders, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (ably represented by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate), Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mohamed Fall.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Oreh praised Dr. Zekeng not just for his scientific breakthroughs—including co-discovering the HIV-1 O strain—but for his deep empathy and commitment to people.

“He is the kind of leader who leads with heart,” she said. “His wisdom, his warmth, and his community-centered approach are what truly make his journey unforgettable.”
Dr. Oreh’s words painted a touching picture of a man whose legacy will stretch far beyond science. “Thank you, Dr. Zekeng, for who you are and the mark you’ve made. The journey truly outlives the traveller.”
