The Federal High Court hearing on the leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was stalled on Wednesday after the Bala Ahmed-aligned faction refused to comply with court orders.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Jungodo Haruna, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, said the adjournment was caused by the rival faction’s appeal to the Court of Appeal, instead of allowing the trial court to hear all pending applications. “Our colleagues on the other side appear unwilling to proceed in line with the court’s directives,” Haruna noted.
He revealed that his team was served only a day prior with an application seeking a stay of execution. The presiding judge declined to entertain oral submissions, directing that all responses be submitted in writing.
Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to January 23, 2026, when the application will be formally considered.
Haruna said the substantive dispute stems from two earlier Federal High Court judgments that barred any national convention in Abuja. “Despite these orders, some members went ahead to conduct that convention in defiance of the law,” he said. “The court must restrain anyone parading themselves as national officers without legal authority.”
Rejecting claims of factionalism, Haruna reiterated the pro-Wike committee’s position as the legitimate leadership of the party. “There is no faction, I am the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee. It’s one PDP,” he declared.
