President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent warm wishes to the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as the revered traditional ruler marks his 85th birthday today, April 22.
Rather than just celebrating the birthday milestone, the President highlighted the Emir’s remarkable journey from the courtroom to the throne, describing him as a symbol of stability, wisdom, and national service. According to President Tinubu, the Emir’s life story reflects deep dedication to justice and unity, values Nigeria needs now more than ever.
Before becoming the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari built a long and respected career in the judiciary. Called to the Bar in 1968, he served as a judge of the Borno State High Court and later as a Justice of the Court of Appeal. He was also the first Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice in the old Gongola State.
In his tribute, President Tinubu noted that the Emir’s contributions did not end with his judicial career. He has also served the country as Chancellor of two federal universities — Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka and the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi.
As Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Emir is widely respected for promoting peace, dialogue, and progress, especially in a time when unity is vital for Nigeria’s growth.
President Tinubu, in his statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, prayed for the Emir’s continued health and strength. He also joined the people of Kwara State and the Ilorin Emirate in celebrating the royal father’s impactful life.
