The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fired a bold shot at President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming the government’s sudden interest in food reforms isn’t from a place of compassion but pure political fear.
According to a statement issued by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi on X, the Tinubu-led government has only just started acting on issues like food security and economic reforms because of the rising popularity of the ADC and the growing unity of the opposition.
“Let’s be clear: what we saw in Bayo Onanuga’s announcement wasn’t reform—it was a confession,” Abdullahi said, referring to the Special Adviser to the President who recently stated that the government will now begin removing all bottlenecks that hinder food production and export.
ADC argues that this sudden U-turn by the government shows it had the power to act all along, but chose to watch Nigerians suffer. The party believes that it wasn’t hunger that woke the government up, but the fear of losing power in 2027.
“They’re not reacting to a national emergency, they’re reacting to the threat of a credible opposition. President Tinubu is not governing—he’s campaigning, two years early,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately ignoring the people’s suffering until political pressure forced them to act. “They are not reforming; they are scrambling for survival,” the statement added.
Calling on Nigerians to be alert, the ADC warned that this “last-minute awakening” is just part of a calculated strategy to secure votes in 2027—not genuine leadership.
“Don’t be fooled by nice-sounding tweets and promises. This is not governance. This is desperation dressed as policy,” the statement concluded.
