In a move that has sparked celebration in Nigeria’s sports community, President Bola Tinubu has approved the full payment of allowances and match bonuses for the Super Falcons, just ahead of their crucial final clash against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, made the announcement on Thursday in Abuja, confirming that all entitlements due to the players, coaches, and team officials have been disbursed for immediate payment — including bonuses up to the final slated for July 26.
“This is policy in motion. It shows President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to Nigerian athletes. No more drama or delays. This is the new standard,” Dikko declared.
The announcement comes as a huge morale booster for the Super Falcons, who are aiming for their 12th WAFCON title, and will now enter the final match with the confidence that their hard work is being recognized and rewarded.

Dikko also revealed that the women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are preparing for their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, will also receive improved allowances and bonuses as part of this new sports financing approach.
