Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the opposition will no longer stay quiet while Nigerians continue to suffer under what he described as one of the most anti-people governments in Nigeria’s democratic history.
On his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of worsening the lives of Nigerians through poor economic decisions, reckless spending, and growing debt.
He revealed that efforts are already underway to build a strong coalition that will confront what he says is a government that has failed to show care or responsibility toward ordinary Nigerians.
“We are building a strong, united opposition coalition — one that will challenge the excesses of this administration… We will not stop until Nigeria is rescued,” he said.
Atiku’s post highlighted painful statistics and real-life issues affecting the poor. He pointed out that Nigeria has now overtaken war-torn Sudan in the number of malnourished children, with the country ranked 18th on the Global Hunger Index 2024.

He also criticized the federal government for increasing fees in critical services like national identity registration and public universities, making life harder for struggling families.
“This government targets the poor with harsh policies, while the rich enjoy VIP treatment in healthcare, education, and basic services,” Atiku wrote.
One of the most worrying issues Atiku raised was the rapid increase in Nigeria’s public debt. According to him, Tinubu’s government has increased the nation’s debt from N49 trillion in 2023 to N144 trillion in just two years — a 150% jump.
While the federal government continues to borrow more, Atiku noted that many state governments have managed to cut their debt, showing better financial discipline.
He accused the Tinubu-led government of borrowing recklessly under the excuse of funding the budget and managing the removal of fuel subsidy, which he claims was done without proper planning.
“We will protect the right of every Nigerian to freely choose their leaders, and we will continue to fight for economic justice, political freedom, and national progress,” he stated.
