The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has called on the newly appointed Local Government Administrators to lead with integrity and make the welfare of their people their top priority.
At a meeting held at Government House, Port Harcourt, Ibas reminded the 23 LG administrators that they hold a critical position as the closest link between government and the grassroots.
But in a tone different from the usual political celebrations of appointments, Ibas chose to focus on values—urging the new LG officials to be prudent, honest, and people-centered. He also warned that his administration will not tolerate any misuse of public funds or abuse of office.
“I have served Nigeria for over 40 years with a clean record, and I did not accept this role to play politics. I came to help restore peace and bring governance back to the people,” he said.
Ibas revealed that he personally visited several local councils before making his selections, and said he chose the current administrators based on merit and capacity—not politics.
He told them that the real work begins now and highlighted key areas they must focus on: sanitation, healthcare, education, civil servant welfare, and youth engagement. He promised their performance will be closely monitored.

“This is not a time for personal gain. Every kobo must count. Every decision you take must reflect the interest of your people,” he said firmly.
He added that local governments are the foundation of good governance, and that restoring public trust depends on how transparent and responsive the councils become under their leadership.

“Let the people feel government again. Let them see the impact in their schools, health centers, and streets. That is the kind of service we owe them,” he added.
With high expectations from citizens, Ibas encouraged the administrators to adopt open communication and work with security agencies to ensure peace in their areas.
The meeting ended on a serious note, with Ibas making it clear that accountability will not be optional under his watch.
