Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been formally received into the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the party’s leadership declaring that the Rivers APC is now fully under his authority. The declaration came from the State Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, who led a high-powered delegation to present the governor’s APC membership card at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Okocha, who represented the National Chairman at the ceremony, described the assignment as “a holy and spiritual mandate.” He applauded Fubara’s decision to join the ruling party, affirming that the APC in Rivers State accepts the governor wholeheartedly and is ready to operate under his leadership.
“We welcome you with our whole heart,” Okocha told the governor. “Rivers APC is now under your headship, and we will be at your beck and call.”
He stated that the governor’s entry into the party restores long-standing political relationships and unites key actors who had previously operated from different political platforms.
Chief Eric Nwibani, the APC State Secretary, handled the official documentation and registration process. Fubara signed the membership register to consummate his admission into the party.
In his response, Governor Fubara reiterated that his decision to join the APC was driven by the need to protect the peace and stability of Rivers State. According to him, it was no longer tenable for the state to work at cross-purposes with the federal government, especially in a political climate that demands collaboration for development.

“My decision is for the safety, protection, and progress of Rivers State,” Fubara said. “We cannot be on a different course from the federal government. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made sacrifices to ensure our government remains stable, and supporting him for 2027 is my way of returning that favor.”
The governor pledged complete loyalty to the APC, promising to strengthen and fund the party statewide. He assured the delegation that all needs of the state party executive would now become his direct responsibility.
He called on party members and stakeholders to begin aggressive grassroots mobilization, emphasising that victory for President Tinubu in Rivers State during the 2027 election must be “smooth, certain, and overwhelming.”
Fubara also highlighted the importance of unity, noting that several political leaders who had been persistent in urging him to align with the ruling party were now vindicated. He encouraged them to double their support, stressing that his political decisions had always prioritised the safety and development of the state.
