A part of the Kaduna-Abuja rail line has come under attack by armed terrorists in Northwestern Nigeria, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed.
After planting an explosive device on the track, the terrorist blew up a part of the Kaduna-Abuja rail tack.
Photos from the scene of the explosion show shattered train coaches and a destroyed track.
Engineer Okhiria, Managing Director of the NRC, said the attack happened on Wednesday evening. Okhiria explained that the explosives damaged the rail tracks somewhere between Dutse and Rijana.
“Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure that the train services along the Kaduna-Abuja route are fully restored,” the NRC MD said.
HOW THE ATTACK HAPPENED
Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate, said the attack along the Dutse and Rijana rail was carried out by armed men terrorising the area. In a social media post, Senator Sani said, apart from Wednesday’s attack, “This early (Thursday) morning, I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged railing.
“The train nearly skids off its track, then we miraculously escaped.”
The Senator who called for immediate intervention by the federal government said all Kaduna-Abuja train operations should be suspended.
“Wednesday night bandits attacked the Kaduna-Abuja train.
They planted an explosive that damaged the rail track and shattered the windshield of the train engine. They also opened fire, targeting the Driver and the Tank. It happened between Dutse and Rijana stations.
The Driver struggled to move towards Kaduna Rigasa station,” he said.
