A yet-to-be-identified policeman has allegedly shot dead a teenager known as DMX in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State, in an incident that has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny of police conduct.
The shooting occurred on Tuesday following an altercation between the officer and the teenager. According to sources, the disagreement escalated quickly, prompting the officer to shoot DMX in the leg.
A source familiar with the incident told our correspondent that the victim was rushed to the hospital by his friends but had already lost a significant amount of blood before receiving medical attention.
“DMX had an issue with a police officer. The altercation escalated, and the officer shot him in the leg. His friends came and rushed him to the hospital, but he had already lost too much blood,” the source said.
Public awareness of the incident grew after an X user, @Sturbyrich65562, raised alarm online, insisting that the teenager—who was reportedly a member of the Eiye confraternity—did not engage in any physical fight with the policeman before he was shot.
“Naija police killed one of my area gees. Though he’s a member of the Eiye confraternity, he did not fight the policeman. He was shot in Ibadan. I think the policeman was trigger-happy based on what I heard,” the user posted, tagging anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra.

Naija Confra, in a separate post, stated that DMX was still alive when taken to the hospital but died after alleged delays and negligence by medical staff, despite his friends paying for emergency blood supplies.
“He was rushed to the hospital alive, and payment was made for blood as he was already losing a lot of blood. However, his friends claim that delays and negligence from the hospital contributed to his death,” the group said.
The group also revealed that the deceased teenager was the son of a high-ranking police officer.
Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Oyefeso, were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered. A text message sent to him had yet to be acknowledged as of the time of filing this report.
The tragic incident comes at a time of growing concern over the excessive use of force by security operatives across the country.
