Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Releases N3.8bn to Settle Pensioners’ Gratuity

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the immediate release of N3.8 billion to the Kaduna State Pension Bureau to pay outstanding gratuities, death benefits, and accrued pension right.

This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Ibraheem Musa.

The statement explained that the governor made the decision on compassionate grounds, following several appeals from pensioners and families of deceased civil servants who said the ongoing pension verification exercise was making life difficult for them.

“We are committed to the welfare of our pensioners, who have devoted their lives to the service of Kaduna State. We must give them all the needed support to make them happy in retirement,” Governor Sani said.

The governor also clarified that the verification exercise is not meant to punish genuine pensioners but to remove ‘ghost’ pensioners from the system and prevent the misuse of the state’s limited resources.

“The verification exercise is aimed at weeding out ghost pensioners from the payroll to curtail the frittering away of the state’s meagre resources. However, we are also mindful of the plight of our genuine pensioners, which is why we have ordered the immediate payment of their gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights,” he added.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Uba Sani’s administration has paid a total of N6.6 billion in pension-related benefits—further proof of his commitment to improving the lives of retirees in Kaduna State.

He assured that the government would continue to prioritize the prompt and smooth payment of all pension entitlements moving forward.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our pensioners receive their entitlements without any hassle,” Governor Sani reaffirmed.
