The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has launched a blistering attack on its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, branding him an “Uber politician” and accusing him of fueling the party’s lingering crisis.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, Abure condemned Obi’s recent call for his supporters to vote for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the August 16, 2025, bye-elections. The former presidential hopeful had urged members of the Obidient Movement and COPDEM families to back ADC candidates, citing the absence of Labour Party candidates recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to internal disputes.
“Kindly note that because the Labour Party has no recognised candidates by INEC due to the internal crisis, I humbly urge every member of Obidient and COPDEM families to go out and vote for the coalition political party, African Democratic Congress in their respective states,” Obi said in a Thursday statement.
But Abure dismissed the directive as “misleading, mischievous, and delusional,” insisting that LP candidates are on the ballot.

“The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party has been drawn to a statement by the party’s former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, directing party members to cast their votes for another party… We call on all our faithful members to ignore this malicious directive and vote for the Labour Party and its candidates,” the statement read.
Abure accused Obi of hypocrisy, claiming he has turned into “an irony and a paradox in the Nigerian political space” who thrives on political subterfuge.
“He has turned himself into an ‘Uber’ politician, not willing to take a position and stand by it… He is now reputed to affiliate with many political parties simultaneously in his desperation to preside over Nigeria,” Abure alleged.
The LP chairman also blamed Obi for initiating and bankrolling the party’s internal crisis, pointing to the controversial expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia on September 4, 2024, hosted by Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
According to Abure, Obi’s actions — including leading a protest to INEC headquarters against his own party — reflect a desperation to seize control of the party at all costs.
“A man that received so much goodwill from the party leadership turned around to pay them with evil… Nigerians should not forget that it was Peter Obi who created the crisis in the Labour Party,” Abure said.

He maintained that despite Obi’s efforts, LP candidates would fully participate in the bye-elections and future polls.
“We encourage our candidates, members, and supporters to remain focused and carry out their civic duties by voting Labour Party across all states holding bye-elections. Nigerians have come to know who Peter Obi really is,” Abure concluded.
