PDP NWC
The Supreme Court judgment on Senator Anyanwu has given the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the power to remove him without the possibility of reversal. This ruling, which emphasizes that internal party matters are not justiciable, means that all court actions initiated by Anyanwu—including any new interim orders—are now irrelevant and should be disregarded.
With this legal backing, the PDP NWC is now in a position to enforce the Ikimi Report, which had earlier recommended Anyanwu’s suspension. Under this ruling, Anyanwu remains suspended, and since the Supreme Court has stated that party leadership decisions are internal matters, he cannot challenge his removal in court. The judgment has not only reinforced the party’s authority but also opened the door for further disciplinary actions, including the potential suspension of Nyesom Wike.
The Supreme Court’s decision is being hailed as a crucial turning point for the PDP. Party leaders who have long opposed the influence of Anyanwu and Wike see this as an opportunity to rebuild and restore stability within the party. According to sources within the PDP, the majority of NWC members—14 out of 18—are committed to rescuing the party from what they describe as years of sabotage and impunity. With this majority, the NWC can immediately summon a meeting, invoke their powers, and remove Anyanwu permanently.
The ruling also ensures that even if Anyanwu attempts to challenge his removal again, the courts will have no jurisdiction over the matter. The Supreme Court’s stance that party leadership disputes should not be handled by the judiciary has effectively shut the door on any legal maneuvers he might attempt. This is seen as a decisive move to prevent further disruptions and to restore order within the PDP.
Beyond Anyanwu, the judgment is also being interpreted as a significant blow to Wike’s influence within the party. The decision provides the NWC with a strong legal foundation to take disciplinary action against him as well. For many party members, this is a long-awaited opportunity to address what they see as years of internal sabotage. The PDP, once a dominant political force, has struggled with internal divisions, and many believe that this ruling could be the beginning of a new chapter.

Party insiders have also stressed that there is no cause for concern among PDP members. The Supreme Court ruling ensures that Anyanwu cannot return as National Secretary, and the party leadership now has the authority to take firm action without fear of legal obstruction. The focus, they say, should be on unity and rebuilding the PDP into a formidable opposition force.
The NWC is expected to move swiftly, not only in reaffirming Anyanwu’s removal but also in adopting the Ikimi Report, which outlines disciplinary measures against him. With the Supreme Court’s ruling serving as a legal shield, the committee can implement these decisions with confidence.
Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, spokesperson for the opposition coalition, has commended the Supreme Court for its clarity on internal party affairs. He praised the NWC members who have refused to be influenced by political deals, urging them to use their majority power to finalize the removal of Anyanwu and take further action against Wike. He emphasized that this is a crucial moment for the PDP, one that should be used to end internal strife and restore the party’s lost glory.
