Former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has been remanded in a London cell.
60-year-old Ekweremadu was remanded along with his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, aged 55 after they appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in west London on Thursday. They are both accused of “conspiracy to arrange and/or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.”
But at the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, Ekweremadu and his wife pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Inside Story
A source that was aware of the matter told symfoninews that Ekweremadu’s child has been suffering from kidney disease and needed a transplant.
The source said a donor, whose name was given as David Nwamini Ukpo with passport number B00569974 and date of birth given as 12 October 2000, was gotten and sent to the UK for investigation with the aim of donating a kidney.
However, the source said the donor’s kidney did not match that of Ekweremadu’s child.
Subsequently, the donor, whose National Identity Number is listed as 19438077110, was scheduled to return to Nigeria.
However, according to the source, the donor eloped and instead showed up at the UK Immigration in search of asylum.
