The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, confirming key dates for presidential, legislative, and governorship polls.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made the announcement on Friday during a news conference in Abuja, stating that the commission has concluded its planning despite ongoing legislative processes around the amended Electoral Act.
According to the schedule, elections for the President and members of the National Assembly will take place on February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are slated for March 6, 2027.

The commission had earlier indicated on February 4 that it had finalized the election timetable and schedule of activities, even as the amended Electoral Act is still being considered by the National Assembly. INEC noted that some aspects of the timetable could be adjusted depending on when the new law is eventually passed.
INEC also disclosed that it has already forwarded its recommendations to lawmakers to ensure alignment between the electoral framework and the proposed legal amendments.
The development follows earlier reforms introduced under former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who initiated the policy of announcing long-term election timetables to provide predictability, reduce voter uncertainty, and address logistical challenges that have historically affected Nigeria’s elections.
