The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured legal clearance to proceed with its Elective National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan restrained the PDP or any of its officers, agents, or members from blocking or frustrating the conduct of the convention. The court affirmed that the party has the constitutional right to organize its internal leadership elections and other democratic processes.
Presiding judge, Justice Akintola, ruled that the plaintiff satisfied the provisions of the law, and therefore granted an order restraining any attempt to stop the convention from taking place as planned.
Reacting to the development, PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, described the judgment as a win for internal democracy and due process.
“This ruling reaffirms the independence of the PDP and our commitment to reforms. The convention will unite our members, elect new leaders, and reposition the party ahead of future elections,” Damagum said.
The two-day convention will feature the election of national officers, ratification of zoning arrangements, and adoption of policy resolutions aimed at strengthening the party’s structure nationwide.
Over 3,000 delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to attend.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who will host the convention, assured party members and visitors of adequate security and hospitality, saying Ibadan is fully prepared to welcome delegates.
