The White House has confirmed that a proposal for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran is under consideration, but U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet approved the deal, meaning military operations are continuing.
According to U.S. officials on Monday, mediators involved in the ongoing Middle East conflict recently presented Washington with the ceasefire proposal. However, the White House clarified that the president has not signed off on it.
A White House official said the proposal is “one of many ideas” currently being reviewed by the administration.
The official added that “Operation Epic Fury continues,” indicating that U.S. military activities linked to the conflict are still ongoing while negotiations are being assessed.
The development comes amid rising tensions in the region following intensified strikes involving Israel and Iran. Recent reports said Israeli forces struck major Iranian infrastructure, including a large petrochemical facility, and also targeted a senior commander of Iran’s special forces in Tehran.
President Trump is expected to address the situation during a press conference scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (1700 GMT), where he may provide further details on the U.S. position regarding the proposed ceasefire and the broader conflict.
The potential ceasefire plan is part of wider diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities in the Middle East, though uncertainty remains over whether Washington will ultimately support the temporary truce.
