The Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, will arrive in Abuja on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for an official visit.
The Acting Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, stated this in a statement issued in Abuja.
Ebienfa said the visiting Foreign Minister who is also a Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will be received on arrival by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
“During his visit, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will meet with the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja on Thursday January 9, 2025, for bilateral talks that will focus on strengthening relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
“The visiting foreign minister will also pay a courtesy call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to deliver a special message from the Chinese President at the Presidential Villa,” Ebienfa said.
Meanwhile the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, will on Thursday, January 9, 2025 begin a two-day official visit to Nigeria.
The National Information Officer, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Oluseyi Soremekun, in a statement issued in Abuja, said while in Nigeria, Mohammed will have a series of meetings, including with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, senior government officials as well as the senior leadership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
“They will be addressing pressing issues of regional stability and development. Ms Mohammed will also meet with the UN country team in Nigeria,” Soremekun said.
Soremekun also said Mohammed will be accompanied during the visit by the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Simão and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall.
