The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared itself strong, united and ready to rescue Nigeria from what it describes as the “catastrophic misrule” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was the highlight of the communique issued at the end of the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held today, Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Abuja.
The NEC meeting, which brought together top leaders of the PDP, focused on the party’s internal unity, future plans, and preparation for the 2027 general elections.
NEC said it was pleased that all disagreements and internal wranglings in the party have been resolved. The party praised its members for choosing dialogue, peace, and unity over conflict.
The party’s elective National Convention will now take place on Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. This event will produce new national officers to lead the party into the 2027 elections.

The NEC directed the PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the date and agenda for the convention, as required by law.
NEC also approved the full list of members for both the National Convention Committee and the Convention Zoning Committee to ensure smooth planning and fair leadership distribution.

In a strong move, NEC directed its legal team to go after PDP lawmakers at both state and federal levels who have defected to other parties. Quoting the 1999 Constitution, the party insists that any elected official who leaves PDP without a division or merger automatically loses their seat.
The party frowned at some members participating in events or meetings of other political parties and warned them to choose loyalty to PDP or face disciplinary action.
The NEC reaffirmed PDP’s readiness to work with like-minded Nigerians and political stakeholders to rescue the country from the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.
