Wigwe, wife, son’s remains arrive in Ikwerre, Rivers state for burial

The remains of late CEO of Access Bank, Dr. Herbert Wigwe,  his wife, Chizoba and son Chizi have arrived in their hometown of Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State for burial.

The local government chairman, Samuel Nwanosike, and Ikwerre people received the remains at the Airport Omagwa Roundabout.

Wigwe, his wife, son, and a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, lost their lives on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash which occurred near a border town between California and Nevada, United States.

The grief-stricken homecoming of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son was a somber affair, marked by a week of heartfelt tributes and mourning from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who gathered to pay their respects.

Throughout the memorial services, attendees shared poignant memories and kind words, reflecting on Herbert Wigwe’s leadership, compassion, and significant contributions to the financial sector. The emotional ceremony brought together individuals from various parts of the country, underscoring the widespread impact of the tragedy on the community.

The repatriation of the bodies via the International Airport in Port Harcourt was a solemn procession, mirroring the profound loss felt by all who were touched by their lives.

As the community prepares for the funeral proceedings, it’s anticipated to be a moment of both mourning and celebration—a time to bid farewell to a family that left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
