At a crucial meeting in Abuja, Wike and PDP stakeholders declare support for Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary and insist on zoning the 2027 presidency to the South.
Former Rivers State Governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alongside other stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared support for Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s authentic National Secretary and demanded that the PDP zones its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
The declaration was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, June 9, 2025. The gathering featured party leaders from across the federation who met to address the party’s ongoing leadership crisis and strategize ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a communiqué read on behalf of the conveners, Wike affirmed that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the position of National Secretary must be respected, and warned against any actions that violate the party’s constitution.
“We unequivocally affirm Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party,” the communiqué stated.
Wike, endorsed the resolutions and emphasized the need for unity and respect for internal democracy. He made it clear that any attempt to undermine the party’s constitution or sow division would be resisted.

“We must stick to what the law says. If we cannot respect our own constitution and court decisions, then we have no moral standing to lead Nigeria,” Wike reportedly said.
Southern Presidency in 2027
A major highlight of the communiqué was the call for the PDP to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South. This, according to the leaders, aligns with principles of equity, inclusion, and federal character as outlined in the PDP constitution.
“The party must make an unequivocal pronouncement zoning its presidential candidate to the South in the 2027 election,” the document emphasized.
The stakeholders also stressed that only Senator Anyanwu is constitutionally empowered to issue notices for critical party meetings including the National Convention, NEC, and Caucus. Any actions taken based on notices issued by any other person were declared “null and void.”

To resolve ongoing disputes, the group called on the Acting National Chairman and Senator Anyanwu to jointly issue a notice for a properly convened national convention as the only lawful path to resolving internal issues.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the PDP and urged all members to support the National Reconciliation Committee led by Senator Bukola Saraki, while also cautioning against divisive and unconstitutional actions.
A voice vote held at the end of the meeting showed overwhelming support for the resolutions. Wike, in his concluding remarks, said the meeting was a turning point for the party.
“By the grace of God, our party will grow stronger. Let us all return to our states and defend what we have agreed here today,” he said.
