2027: G100 Set to Hold 1st Opposition Parties Summit, Names Who Should Attend

Opposition Coalition, otherwise known as ‘G100’ will on Monday, August 31, 2026, convene the First Summit of Key Stakeholders of Nigeria’s Opposition Political Parties at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

The summit, themed “A Framework for Opposition Cooperation and Coordination,” is expected to bring together leaders and key stakeholders of six opposition parties — the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The G100 is a political advocacy/coordination group in Nigeria that is working to bring opposition political parties together ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to the G100, the meeting will begin a structured negotiation on how the opposition parties can cooperate and coordinate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The summit follows the group’s publication of the Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition on August 2, 2026, as well as weeks of consultations with the leadership of the six parties.

The G100 said the consultations identified areas of convergence among the parties while recognising their different histories, identities and political interests.

It said the immediate objective of the summit is not to decide on a presidential candidate or determine the final form of opposition cooperation, but to establish a formal framework through which such issues can be negotiated collectively and transparently.

Proposals before the summit include the creation of structures to facilitate negotiations and five specialised working groups, which, subject to approval by the participating parties, are expected to develop key agreements and documents within four weeks.

The G100 will serve as facilitator and observer, stressing that it will not replace the constitutional authority or decision-making structures of the participating political parties.

Expected participants include national chairmen, party leaders and members of the National Working Committees of the six parties, presidential candidates and running mates, G100 signatories and members of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus.

The summit is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
