Omoyele Sowore has declared that Nigerians must rise against what he described as tyranny, corruption, exploitation, and economic oppression, unveiling a radical revolutionary agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking as the sole presidential aspirant of the African Action Congress during the party’s convention, Sowore delivered a fiery address filled with anti-establishment rhetoric, calls for mass resistance, and promises to dismantle what he called Nigeria’s “corrupt elite system.”
The activist-politician described the AAC as Nigeria’s “only genuine opposition” and vowed that the party would continue mobilising ordinary Nigerians against policies that have deepened poverty and inequality.
“We are not here to have a seat at the table; we are here to shatter the table,” Sowore declared to loud cheers from party supporters.
He accused successive governments of implementing “neo-colonial” economic policies dictated by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, blaming subsidy removal, naira devaluation, and rising taxes for worsening hardship across the country.
According to him, the current economic structure benefits only a small class of oligarchs while millions of Nigerians remain trapped in poverty, unemployment, and insecurity.
Sowore also took aim at Nigeria’s security architecture, alleging that security agencies have become tools for protecting the political elite rather than safeguarding ordinary citizens.
He claimed that insecurity across the country was fuelled by inequality, unemployment, and hopelessness among young people.
“The system was deliberately designed by thieves to enrich themselves,” he said.
The AAC leader further accused private interests of hijacking critical sectors of the economy, warning that monopolies in petroleum, cement, and telecommunications were holding Nigerians hostage.
He promised that an AAC government would break monopolies, nationalise strategic sectors, and prosecute individuals accused of looting public resources.
In a major policy announcement, Sowore unveiled four economic frameworks he said would drive prosperity under an AAC administration.
They include the “Orange Economy” focused on entertainment, technology, sports, and creative industries; the “Purple Economy” aimed at women’s empowerment; the “Blue Economy” centred on waterways and aquatic resources; and the “Green Economy” built around renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
He declared an end to what he called Nigeria’s failed “Black Economy,” which he described as an economic order built on corruption, exploitation, and environmental destruction.
Sowore also announced plans for a “Nationwide State of Resistance” beginning on August 5, urging Nigerians to rise peacefully against hunger, corruption, and bad governance.
Referencing the #RevolutionNow, #EndSARS, and #EndBadGovernance protests, he said resistance movements had become necessary because conventional politics had failed the people.
“The struggle continues. Victory is certain,” he declared.
