A 50 year old woman identified as Kudirat Abolarinwa has been found dead in a bush where she was allegedly raped and matcheted to death at Lekere in Ayeyemi area in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
One of the residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said the deceased followed a man to buy plantain in a farm but allegedly attacked by the man on their way to the farm.
It was learnt that the man had on Thursday gone to the area to ask for the people selling plantain on the pretence that he wanted to sell some plantain in his farm.
The deceased who was a plantain seller reportedly followed the man to the farm but met her untimely death on the way to the farm.
The police at Enu-Owa Police division in Ondo had initially declared that the deceased had gone missing before her lifeless body was finally found on Saturday.
The deceased’s husband, Abolarinwa, reported the incident to the police in Ondo.
Although the circumstances leading to the death of the woman were unclear, the police said a bag containing a small paper was found at the spot where her corpse was found.
The division also declared that in the paper it was known to them that the suspect was released from segede prison on the 6th of February, 2024.
However, the body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state police command, Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident, disclosing that investigations have commenced on the matter.
She said no arrest has been made, but assured of prompt action by the police.
