Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has today announced a series of high-profile leadership appointments aimed at reinforcing internal security and enhancing rapid responses to violent crimes, while unveiling plans to bolster maritime safety. In a comprehensive address delivered at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP revealed that Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle has been appointed to head the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and simultaneously lead Elections Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as the Safe School Protection Squad. Additionally, the IGP has designated CSP Chima Ogarashi as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO), entrusting him with the responsibility of securing Nigeria’s inland waterways.

“Good afternoon, my fellow Nigerians. Today, I am proud to announce a series of critical appointments that underscore our unwavering commitment to the safety and security of every citizen in our great nation. To confront the challenges posed by violent crime and to ensure swift and effective responses, I have appointed Commissioner Abayomi Shogunle as the new head of the Special Intervention Squad. In addition to this role, CP Shogunle will also oversee our Elections Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as lead the Safe School Protection Squad—an initiative designed to safeguard our future by protecting our students.
“In our continuous effort to secure every facet of our society, I have also appointed CSP Chima Ogarashi as the new Force Marine Officer. With his extensive experience in maritime security and his proven expertise in enforcing maritime laws, CSP Ogarashi will be responsible for ensuring that our inland waterways—critical to our national economy and security—are well protected.
“These appointments come at a pivotal time as we prepare to enhance our operational capacity by unveiling 25 newly acquired gunboats and additional maritime safety equipment. This asset acquisition is a proactive measure to safeguard lives and property while bolstering public confidence in our security services.
