A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order stopping the Senate from carrying out disciplinary proceedings against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly. The ruling was delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu on Tuesday, following an ex parte motion filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team. The court’s decision temporarily halts the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from taking any action against her until a full hearing is conducted.

This development follows a heated confrontation between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat allocation in the Senate chamber. The controversy began on February 20, 2025, when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan rejected the seat assigned to her during a plenary session. She challenged Senate President Akpabio’s directive, repeatedly raising a point of order, even after being overruled.

Senator Yemi Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South, later claimed that the incident damaged the Senate’s image.
