Lekki building collapse: A three-story building under construction in Lekki, Lagos collapsed on Oriwu Street, leaving two dead and 14 rescued. Emergency teams responded quickly as rescue operations continue.
LAGOS – On Wednesday, in the Lekki area of Lagos, a three-story building with a penthouse under construction collapsed on Oriwu Street. The incident happened around 4:00 pm, and emergency teams rushed to the scene.

At the site, labourers working at House 29 were caught in the collapse. Rescue teams recovered two bodies at about 7:45 pm and rescued a total of 14 people from the rubble. Some reports mention that six persons were initially rescued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), but later updates confirmed 14 rescues.
Police and emergency services, including LASEMA, the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, coordinated the search and rescue operations. The injured have been taken to Lagos Island General Hospital and Marina General Hospital for treatment.
Officials are yet determined the cause of the collapse as investigations are still ongoing. Meanwhile, heavy-duty equipment such as excavators remains at the scene as rescue efforts continue.
