Abalama community’s traditional ruler, King Dr. A. B. Big Tom Tom JP, has strongly opposed the planned Thanksgiving for the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, citing security concerns and political tension in Rivers State.
The event, scheduled for March 15, 2025, was intended to honor Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, but the monarch has distanced himself and the community at large from it.
In a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, the king expressed shock at discovering the event through social media (Facebook), without his knowledge or approval. He emphasized that Abalama is an autonomous community, and no event of such magnitude should be held without his consent.
“I was not informed about this planned Thanksgiving for Nyesom Wike, and I consider it a disregard for my authority as the paramount ruler of Abalama. My people and I have decided that the event should be moved elsewhere,” the king stated.

The monarch also referenced the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, stressing that holding a major political gathering could endanger lives. He had previously advised a postponement, but after receiving no response from the organizers, he made a public announcement rejecting the event.
“I am not a partisan leader, and my priority is the peace and security of my people. Therefore, we disassociate ourselves from this Thanksgiving for Nyesom Wike and urge the organizers to take it elsewhere,” he added.
