President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief Pascal Dozie, a respected elder statesman, renowned entrepreneur, and trailblazer in Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors. He passed away at the age of 85.
Chief pascal’s death was announced by his family on Tuesday, drawing tributes from across the country. In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late Pascal as a “visionary whose contributions to Nigeria’s economic architecture left an enduring legacy.”
President Tinubu highlighted Chief Pascal’s trailblazing role as the founder of Diamond Bank and pioneer chairman of MTN Nigeria, noting that his work helped shape two of Nigeria’s most transformative sectors — banking and telecommunications.

“Chief Pascal Gabriel Dozie, OON, was a steadfast believer in Nigeria’s vast potential,” the President said. “He was pivotal in shaping the financial services industry and expanding access to mobile connectivity nationwide.”
Beyond his achievements in the corporate world, Dozie also served in major national roles, including as a former director of the Central Bank of Nigeria, President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group. Tinubu said these positions reflected Dozie’s deep commitment to national development, policy reform, and youth empowerment.
The President described the late Pascal as “a rare breed business leader whose wisdom, humility, and pioneering efforts laid a foundation upon which many continue to build.”
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Chief Dozie’s soul and offered heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, and the extended Dozie family.
In closing, Tinubu called on Nigeria’s private sector to honour Chief Pascal’s memory by upholding the values he lived by — integrity, innovation, and a strong belief in nation-building.
Chief Pascal is remembered as one of Nigeria’s most influential business minds, whose life’s work helped transform the country’s economic landscape. His legacy is set to inspire generations for years to come.
