Songhai farms
Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas has assured Rivers people that the government will bring back Songhai Integrated Farms to full operation – and this time, the communities will be part of the journey.
During a weekend inspection of the farm at Bunu Tai in Tai LGA, Ibas didn’t just walk through the facilities. He talked with local leaders, youth, and women, stressing that protecting the farm and other state-owned assets is everyone’s job.
“These projects were built for your benefit,” he said. “We’ll do our part to revive them, but you must also protect them.”
The Songhai farm, once a thriving agricultural hub, has been inactive for some time. But the Administrator says that will change soon. “Our goal is to boost food production and create real jobs for young people,” he added.
He wasn’t alone at the Songhai farms visit. With him were Dr. Tammy Jaja, the farm’s coordinator, and Mr. Morrison Ogolo from the Ministry of Agriculture. Together, they also visited the TechFarms Slaughter House in Mgbuosimini and the State Veterinary Hospital in Rumuodomaya.
According to Ibas, these farms and facilities are part of a bigger plan – to make Rivers State food-sufficient. That means growing more food locally, supporting farmers, and cutting down on food imports.

“If these projects work well, our youth will be employed, and the whole state will benefit,” he said.
One of Ibas’ strongest messages during the tour was to the host communities of songhai farms: “Stop vandalising government property.” He urged locals to work with the police and civil defence to protect the facilities, saying any damage slows down development.
Beyond agriculture, Ibas also visited an ongoing road project at P-Mac Avenue in Rumuodara. He expressed satisfaction and said the work must be completed within two months as promised.

The overall message from the Administrator was clear: Rivers State has already invested heavily in these projects, and now it’s time to make them work – for the people.
“We are determined to fix these facilities, but we need your support to make them last,” Ibas concluded.
