In a decisive move to reposition itself ahead of future elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified the replacement of its former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, with Architect Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, who will now serve in an acting capacity.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party made the announcement on Monday, describing it as a step toward healing internal rifts and restoring order in the party. Koshoedo, who was the Deputy National Secretary, will hold the fort until the South-East zone presents Rt. Hon. Udo Okoye as the substantive secretary.
Rather than focus solely on the sack, many party stakeholders are hailing the decision as a much-needed fresh start. One of the loudest voices of support came from Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, leader of the opposition coalition and PDP lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency. According to him, the move is part of a larger recovery plan the party desperately needs.
“This is a bold step in the right direction,” Ugochinyere said. “We’ve been asking for action, and today the NWC showed they are ready to lead.”

Ugochinyere also called on the NWC to go further by adopting the Ikimi disciplinary report, which recommends sanctions against members accused of anti-party activities. He emphasized that restoring public trust would require not just leadership changes, but also accountability.
“Those who worked against the party must face the consequences. We must clean house completely to win back the confidence of Nigerians,” he added.
